Book Review: Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Red Rising (Red Rising Saga, #1)Red Rising by Pierce Brown
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I would have lived in peace. Buy my enemies brought me war.

From the very first lines, I was completely hooked—and that grip never loosened. I truly loved this book.

Non-Spoiler Summary:
Red Rising follows Darrow, a young man born into the lowest class of a brutally hierarchical society on Mars. His world is built on lies, oppression, and rigid color-coded castes. After a devastating betrayal, Darrow is given the opportunity to infiltrate the ruling class and dismantle the system from within. What follows is a high-stakes journey filled with strategy, survival, and rebellion.

Characters:
Darrow is an incredibly compelling protagonist—driven, emotional, and constantly evolving. You feel his rage, his grief, and his determination in every chapter. What really stood out to me, though, is how layered the supporting characters are. No one feels one-dimensional. Alliances shift, loyalties are tested, and every character brings something meaningful to the story. You’re never quite sure who to trust, which made the reading experience even more addictive.

World-Building:
The world-building in Red Rising is phenomenal. Pierce Brown creates a society that feels both futuristic and eerily believable. The color-based caste system is detailed and immersive, with each level having its own culture, expectations, and power dynamics. It’s the kind of world that pulls you in so deeply that you can clearly visualize every setting, every hierarchy, and every brutal rule that governs it.

Final Thoughts:
This book had me hooked from the beginning and never let go. It’s intense, emotional, and packed with action, but it also has depth—exploring themes of power, identity, sacrifice, and rebellion. If you love character-driven stories with rich world-building and constant tension, this is absolutely a must-read.

I can already tell this is going to be one of those series I won’t stop thinking about.
